We are Rhenegade Chows. Owners are Carla and Michael. :-)I, Carla, have been in chows since 1991. It started with my 1/4 lab
3/4 chow girl Rhen. (part of my kennel namesake) She was such a joy. I
loved her very very much. We had great adventures from walks at the
boardwalk to big gulps filled with water, and plain cheesburgers at McDonald.
She trained me how to be a furkids Mom. From those early days to now I
have shown in conformation exhibition, done obedience training,
and I rescue, as well as boarding. This is a passion of mine. Chows
are the most beautiful, wonderful, easy going breed that a person could
be blessed to be loved by and love. I have always loved animals but my
love of chows just doesn't seem to have an end. All colors, all coats,
all things chow chow. I am currently a Para Legal student. I am also a certified Vet Asst and
attended Vet tech school.
While there is an adoption fee for
Rhenegade chows puppies we are a hobby kennel, not a business. A
business makes a profit after all is said and done, a hobby
kennel is lucky to break even or not be too far in the red. :-) We put
everything we make on our litters back into our chows, health testing and now we are about to be back in the show ring again. :-)
MY MISSION.
To
produce healthy puppies to be placed in the best homes, where they will
never be given away, abused or forgotten about, and to give them a back
up plan when if someone breaks their contract and doesn't
provide them with everything they deserve. To microchip all our puppies
so if they ever go missing due to a variety of reasons that
they can be identifed and returned to safe arms. To make a statement and
an example of what should be expected of all breeders.
Whether they planned a litter or not. To help parents through every step
of raising thier puppy so they may be successful and have a
long wonderful life together.. And to show the breeders that think that
breeding is only about producing lives and selling them and saying
good bye is not in the best interest of the puppies or the people who
give those puppies a home. So my mission is be 100% commited to my chowdren,
puppies and my puppy parents. I whelp these babies I care deeply for
them. Each and every one of them. I always will. And that is our Mission here.
MY VIEWS ON BACK YARD BREEDERS AND PUPPYMILLERS
There is a lot of talk about good breeders and bad breeders, back yard breeders and puppymills. Some think back yard breeder is in reference to where the dogs mated. Others think if you breed at all you are a puppymill. Here
is where I stand on these issues. I feel no matter whether a litter is
planned or not, that makes you a breeder. It is what you do from conception
on that determines whether or not you are a good breeder. If you take
responsibility and find the best homes that you can, and you place
them
out on contracts, and follow up for the rest of the puppies life, then
that is being a responsible breeder. Does that mean that unplanned breedings
are ok? NO, it does not. I am the first to say that my first litters
born here were "oops." I am very embarrassed by that. I did however get
both health tested and even eyes examined for CERF. When a breeding is
planned out of thought and concern for the puppies you are going to
produce
and the parents they will go to, and health is at the forefront of your
planned breeding, then that is a responsible breeding. Like with any living creature accidental breedings will occur, and being honest about how the breeding came about is best.
A BIT ABOUT OUR PRACTICES AND FURKIDS
ALL OUR ADULTS CONSIDERED FOR BREEDING HERE HAVE HAD THEIR HIPS X-RAYD AND A THOROUGH HEALTH CERTIFICATION DONE, MOST INCLUDE A CERTIFICATION OR PRELIM BY OFA,. ALL HERE HAVE OR WILL HAVE UABR FULL HEALTH CERTIFICATION, WHICH IS MANDATORY IF I WANT A CHAMPION TITLE TO BE RECOGNIZED IF THEY EARN ONE IN CONFIRMATION. THAT SHOWS INTEGRITY ON THE PART OF UABR AND THOSE WHO REGISTER WITH THEM.
My
intent is to make sure that our puppies have the healthiest genetics
possible. That isn't trying to fool nature, undesireable genes will rear
thier
heads from even the best of breedings. But what I can
say if that ever does happen here, I will know, and that puppy parent
will know we certainly
tried our very best to help prevent it.
Who or What do I consider to be the definition of a back yard breeder and puppy millers?
Anyone
who breeds or places, without the puppies best interest at heart,
planned or not Period. But to elaborate a bit more..Breeders who mass breed,
or breed occasional litters without the concern for health
certifications for the health of thier puppies, or where they go and for
how long. No health certifications and the lack of desire to be questioned. THOSE WHO ADVERTISE WHAT GENES AN AVAILABLE PUPPY CARRIES COAT COLOR WISE RATHER THAN WHAT THE HEALTH BACKGROUND IS, AND NOT LET EVERY TOM DICK AND HARRY BREED. THOSE WHO HAVE WAY TOO MANY AND BREED AS MANY OF THEM AS POSSIBLE, WHELPING OUTSIDE IN SHACKS, LIVING IN SQUALER, DESPITE WHETHER THEY ARE USDA CERTIFIED OR NOT. CHOWS ARE NOT MEAT IN THE USA. SUCH BREEDING PRACTICES SHOULD BE STOPPED. I AM NOT ANTI BREEDER, I AM ANTI BAD BREEDER. THE SAD PART IS THERE ARE AS MANY UNFIT PEOPLE TO PLACE THEM WITH WHO DON'T CARE WHERE THEY CAME FROM, AS THERE ARE BAD BREEDERS TO PROVIDE THEM. THIS AND THIS ALONE IS WHY WE HAVE NEARLY 3000 CHOWS PUT TO SLEEP ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
If they know what should be done, and just don't care and wanted
puppies because it was a quick buck that is a back yard breeder on a small
scale, a puppy miller on a large scale. If they don't take interest in
who you are, or the home you will provide and are more interested in the
sale and "you want to act fast they are going quick" that
is a byb and or a puppy miller. If they want deposits up front, be
weary. If they don't give deposits back before a certain
age, be weary. Back yard breeders will tell you, my dogs are healthy
they have never had a problem, DO NOT hesitate to ask for
proof, the proof is in the pudding they say. Show me the health
certifications you say. That is when they will probably get annoyed.
They get annoyed at you asking them about things like CERF or OFA.
Puppymillers are the worst. They not only get annoyed, they have too
many puppies and buyers to care what you think, they sell mostly to PET
STORES although more and more sell to private citizens. ask for lots of
pictures, ask if that IS the puppy you will recieve. And please
regardless of your faith do not let somene sway you with religion. That
one disgusts me when I hear that, as if because you and they
may be of one religion or another that you won't ask questions or
assume everything is hunky dorry.
Ask, ask, ask. :-) and
you should get legit answers, if you do not, PLEASE DO NOT PITTY the
puppy and take it home, that is only fueling them to produce more.
YOU SHOULD ASK QUESTIONS, HERE IS A LIST OF WHAT TO ASK.
I have included my answers on there, but would love to have you ask me in person anyways. :-)
